GMO Labelling:

It's time for a facelift for my long forgotten blog ! :)

I'll be blogging about topics that interest me - alternative medicine, technology , real estate , budgeting.

So let's get started!

GMO Labelling:

Here are a couple of articles to get y'all warmed up:

http://www.foodprocessing.com/industrynews/2015/house-passes-bill-banning-state-gmo-labeling-laws/

Several interesting points crop up to my mind:
1. The GMO camp does not want the states to take the initiative on labeling.
2. The GMO camp does not want mandatory labeling.
3. The GMO camp wants FDA to redefine "natural" to include "GMO" .
4. Based on 2 and 3 above , I'd imagine the end product would be something that "optionally" states "All Natural" on it's label when it contains GMO.

So am I stupid or does this essentially mean status quo? No change in labeling?

And yet the GMO camp says they are in favor of labeling and that they completely support it.

When there is difference between action and words, it can only mean one thing :
GMO Camp lies when it says it supports labeling.

What they want is no labeling and even better it would like the label to associate GMO with non GMO safe foods. They would like for the customer to get warm fuzzies about farms and chickens playing in the dirt when they purchase GMO food.

That leads me to a few other conclusions:

1. They feel their food will not sell if marketed as "GMO" .  Why else would they be fighting tooth and nail to prevent the label "GMO" ?
2. They want to usurp the goodwill created in the consumer's mind about non-gmo food and otherwise confuse the public.
3. If they are dishonest about the labeling - how can we expect them to be honest about the food?? How do we know that their food is not harmful for us? What else are they hiding about their food? We do know for a fact that their prime motive is profits - that is what a corporation is formed for. As long as the food doesn't outright kill us right now - our laws will hold them in the clear.
4. They have lobbied to invalidate the wishes of the people of Vermont and other states. That is wayy too much power to be held in the hands of an entity meant solely for the purpose of creating wealth. Wealth equates to power and now they have power to control governments. A govt cannot willy -nilly just govern people. There are checks and balances in place and a govt is responsible to the people that elected it.  If corporations now have the ability to control govts -- why are they not subjected to the same checks and balances that govt is subjected to?
5. Given that the GMO Camp lies about their motives - I believe the most reasonable explanation for them not wanting the states to have the right to label - is merely because the states would in truth enforce gmo labeling laws.

If you would like to show your support and let congress know that they cannot trample upon people's right like that -- and I hope you will coz the future of your kids is at stake here - please go to the following links and either contribute and / or send a email to your senator.
